A Remarkable 99% Pass Rate:

SKR’s Kyu Grading Success

“The dedication and passion of our students never cease to amaze me. Their performance today was outstanding, and it fills me with pride to see the students grow and develop in their Karate journey.”

Sensei Michael Ring

7th Dan

On a chilly Sunday morning, March 3rd, the students of Shotokan Karate Ryu (SKR) based in Bishops Stortford, gathered in anticipation at the Mountfitchet Romeera Leisure Centre. Over 120 Karate-ka, donned in their Gis, were ready to take their Kyu grading, a major step in their journey towards mastering the art of Shotokan Karate.

Under the watchful gaze of Sensei Michael Ring (7th Dan) and Sensei Donna Ring (5th Dan), the grading commenced. With over four decades of combined teaching experience, the Senseis provide a nurturing yet challenging environment for the students. The grading, encompassing Kihon (basics), Kata (formal exercises) and Kumite (Sparring drills), was a true test of the students’ skills and spirit. The result? A remarkable 99% pass rate.

The day began with our youngest members, the Tiger Tots, showing their prowess. This unique programme, tailored for 4-6 year-olds and marking its 20th successful year, is the brainchild of Sensei Donna. It was heartening to see the little ones facing the grading with courage and enthusiasm, setting the tone for the rest of the day.

Post-grading, Sensei Michael reflected on the day: “The dedication and passion of our students never cease to amaze me. Their performance today was outstanding, and it fills me with pride to see the students grow and develop in their Karate journey.”

Shotokan Karate Ryu continues to provide classes throughout the week for adults, juniors, and families, welcoming anyone aged 4 and above who wishes to embark on an enriching journey of self-discovery through traditional Karate-do.
