HALF TERM WORKSHOP

Building Skills Through Kata, Kumite and Specialist Training

Half Term Workshop Success!

Sensei Donna recently hosted an exciting Half Term Workshop that brought together 18 enthusiastic participants for an intensive morning of Karate training. The energy in the dojo was incredible as students pushed themselves to new heights and deepened their understanding of karate techniques.

The morning workshop was packed with valuable training opportunities, focusing on several key areas:

  • Kata Practice: Participants spent quality time revising their kata, working on precision, timing, and the flow of movements that make each form meaningful.

  • Bunkai (Applications): We explored the practical applications of kata techniques, examining how traditional movements translate into real combat scenarios and self-defence situations.

  •  Set Defences: Students worked through structured defence sequences, developing their ability to respond effectively to various attacks.

  • Kicks: Special attention was given to kicking techniques, with participants refining their balance, power, and accuracy.

  • Specialist Training Equipment: Everyone had the opportunity to practise their techniques on specialist training equipment, providing realistic feedback and helping to build power and confidence.

The extended workshop, for brown belt and above went on to focus on higher level Katas Tekki Shodan, Bassai Dai, Enpi and Jitte – with the nuances of the moves in these Kata explained in more depth.

Both sessions concluded with Shiai Kumite (free-style sparring). Participants took home Halloween-themed treats and earned the coveted SKR stamp in their Course Record Books.

A Morning Well Spent

The workshop atmosphere was fantastic, with students of all levels supporting each other and sharing in the joy of learning. It’s always rewarding to see our martial arts community come together during school holidays to continue their development and deepen their practice.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made the morning such a success. We look forward to our next workshop!
