Celebrating a Milestone: //

150th Black Belt Pass at Shotokan Karate Ryu //

On Sunday, 23rd of June, Shotokan Karate Ryu (SKR) celebrated a significant milestone – the 150th black belt pass. The grading session, held at the SKR Hombu in Stansted Mountfitchet, was an intense and rigorous examination, witnessing five dedicated students vying for their Dan gradings.

Noah Mason, the proud achiever of the 150th black belt pass, along with Blythe Hookham and Henry Mills, are all graduates of the Tiger Tots program. This program, catering to children as young as four years old, has provided them a solid foundation on their path to black belt. Jamie Winstanley and George Bennett were also in the limelight, demonstrating their skill and determination in the grading session.

Big day at Shotokan Karate Ryu!

The club surpassed a significant milestone of 150 black belt passes and now has a total of 151 Shodan (1st Dan) passes!

The examination put the candidates through their paces in demonstrating their skills in Kihon (basic techniques), Kata (formal Exercises), and Kumite (Sparring). Their understanding of Karate techniques and terminology was also put to the test, challenging them both physically and mentally. The atmosphere in the dojo was charged with anticipation and intensity, as each candidate demonstrated their skills with impressive determination and perseverance.

Sensei Michael Ring, 7th Dan, along with other experienced panel members, evaluated the performance of each candidate. They praised the students for not only meeting the high demands of the grading but also far surpassed expectations. Sensei Ring commented: “The performance of the Dan grade candidates stood out in what was one of the most challenging and demanding Dan gradings the Hombu has witnessed. The candidates rose to the occasion and far exceeded expectations.”
