The SKR is a traditional karate club and firmly believes in the practice of Kata to improve mind, body and spirit.
Alongside regular Kata practice in the lessons, Sensei Ring runs several courses a year to help improve students understanding of the moves. On 23 September around 30 Karate-ka Sempai (brown belts and above) joined him and Sensei Donna, at the Thorley Community Centre, Bishops Stortford, to practice one of the 11 Kata required to advance to Shodan (black belt), Bassai Dai.
The Kata was taught incrementally and at each stage the Bunkai (applications of the moves) were explained and students had the opportunity to practice these applications on partners.
Below are a few photographs from the course.
