The Shotokan Karate Ryu was established in 2003 and since then it has been our mission to teach the art of Traditional Karate in Bishops Stortford and Stansted.
Today, we are the largest Shotokan Karate School in the area with over 30 Black belts and over 200 licensed students.

Tiger Tots
4-6 years
Tiger Tots is designed to develop a child’s co-ordination and motor-stills, whilst building confidence, independence and self-discipline.
Juniors
5-16 years
We offer a number of classes that are Junior only, and also mixed Adult and Junior lessons.

Sensei Michael Ring
7th Dan
Chief Instructor Sensei Michael Ring (7th Dan), is a Senior English Karate-ka recognised in 2023 for his expertise in, and outstanding contribution to, the art of Karate-do. He is also a senior policy advisor in Government.
Sensei Donna Ring
6th Dan
Sensei Donna Ring (5th Dan), the Chief Instructor of Juniors, is a former Expert Witness with the Forensic Science Service and responsible for developing the revolutionary Tiger Tots programme for teaching Karate to 4-6 year olds.
